Sara Frankel

Sara Frankel is an American violist who recently completed both a Professional Diploma and a Master of Music (MMus) at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she studied as an ESTA Finlay Scholar and Loveday Scholar under the guidance of Dr. Rivka Golani.

 

She also holds an Advanced Music Studies Certificate and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Viola Performance, with a minor in Sonic Arts, from Carnegie Mellon University, where she graduated with University Honors.

During her time at Carnegie Mellon, Sara studied with esteemed viola professors David Harding and Tatjana Chamis Mead. Alongside her classical training, she collaborated with internationally recognized electronic musicians Jesse Stiles and Annie Hui-Hsin Hseih on innovative projects that merged music with computer programming. These collaborations included performances in electronic ensembles and the creation of original multimedia installations.

In her final undergraduate year, Sara was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society and was awarded the Tuesday Music Club Competition Scholarship. A notable highlight of her performance career includes presenting the United States premiere of David Jaeger’s solo work Sarabande during his residency with the Canadian Electronic Ensemble at Carnegie Mellon.

Sara has performed at many of the world’s leading concert venues, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Carnegie Music Hall, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Kresge Theatre, among others.

As an educator, Sara is known for her personable and highly adaptable teaching style. She tailors each lesson to the individual needs of her students, creating a flexible and supportive learning environment that fosters growth and confidence.

 

With experience teaching students ranging in age from 4 to 74, she offers instruction in violin, viola, piano, and music theory. Her teaching approach is deeply informed by her lifelong connection to the special needs community. Growing up alongside her older brother with special needs, she developed a strong understanding of diverse learning styles and the importance of accessibility in education.

 

This perspective led her to co-found Azure Family Concerts of Pittsburgh, a concert series designed specifically with behavioral and sensory needs in mind.Sara’s teaching emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and hands-on engagement, ensuring that each student receives a personalized and meaningful musical experience.

She is excited to continue her musical journey in the UK and looks forward to connecting with fellow musicians, students, and collaborators.
